About Paycheck Math

Paycheck Math is a free calculator and reference site for US pay questions: what a salary is per hour, what a wage is per year, and what actually arrives after tax.

What we do

Every figure on this site is computed from published government rates, not copied from another calculator. Federal brackets and standard deductions come from the IRS, FICA rates and the Social Security wage base from the Social Security Administration, and state rules from each state's revenue department. Sources are listed on the methodology page.

How to read the numbers

Take-home figures are estimates for a single filer with the standard deduction and no other pre-tax deductions. Real paychecks differ with 401(k) contributions, health insurance, dependents, credits and local taxes. Use these numbers to compare offers and states, then check your actual pay stub for the precise figure.
